Ghosthunter
Vicente B. Ballestar, born in Barcelona in 1929, is a Spanish illustrator known worldwide for his genre-defining dark pulp and supernatural realist illustrations. Throughout his long career, he has been beloved by aficionados of the genre worldwide, especially for his cover illustrations for Geisterjäger, John Sinclair (Ghosthunter, John Sinclair). From the beginning of the series in the 70s to his retirement in 2007, Ballestar created almost one thousand striking scenes in his preferred medium watercolour, giving the adventures of John Sinclair their unmistakable graphic character and certainly greatly contributing to its cult status. In the horror detective fiction series, published weekly since 1973, Scotland Yard chief inspector John Sinclair is the eponymous protagonist of the German pulp fiction written by Helmut Rellergerd under the pen name Jason Dark.

Die Bauhausfotografie steht im Mittelpunkt der vierten Ausgabe der Zeitschrift bauhaus, die von der Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau herausgegeben wird. Parallel zur Ausstellung „Das Bauhaus im Bild. Die Fotosammlung Thomas Walther“, die vom 5. Dezember 2012 bis zum 24. Februar 2013 in Dessau zu sehen ist, widmet sich das Heft der lichtkünstlerischen Hinterlassenschaft des Bauhauses. Da sind die bildgebende Fotografie eines László Moholy-Nagy, für den die Arbeit mit der Kamera die Verbildlichung einer Idee war und eben nicht die Abbildung einer Wirklichkeit. Seinem Antipoden Walter Peterhans ging es hingegen um nichts anderes als die präzise Vermessung der Wirklichkeit. T- Lux Feininger wiederum interessierte sich für den sozialen Augenblick, Umbo für das Porträt und die Reportagefotografie. Das von Moholy ausgerufene Neue Sehen kannte viele Facetten, ungewöhnliche Blickwinkel und Perspektiven.
The fourth issue of the new Bauhaus Dessau Foundation’s new journal is dedicated to photography at the Bauhaus and exclusively features twenty-six works from Thomas Walther’s collection that one day will expand the collection in Dessau. An interview with the collector Thomas Walther and an accompanying essay by Rolf Sachsse on the history of collecting Bauhaus photography open the issue. Wolfgang Thöner describes the Dessau masters’ home for László Moholy-Nagy and Lyonel Feininger as the nucleus of Bauhaus photography, and Torsten Blume devotes himself to the photo albums of students and teachers at the Bauhaus that have shaped its identity. Gottfried Jäger remembers Moholy-Nagy as the “Leonardo of the twentieth century,” and Franziska Brons writes about the early days of aerial photography. Plus a magazine section: Fifty years of Gropiusstadt, gleanings from documenta from the perspective of the Bauhaus, and Marcel Breuer and eroticism. Forthcoming

Notes towards a Critique of Money
The analysis in Notes towards a Critique of Money highlights the functions of money both in the organization of the capitalist symbolic order and in the constitution of subjectivity in the market.
Combining Lacanian psychoanalysis and Baudrillardian structuralism, the book creates a universe where price and sign are entangled, giving rise to the dominant organizing form of capitalism. The fantasmatic management of desire enforces this structural principle on the subjective level and encourages the libidinal investment in the dominant representations of social reality as they are produced by the combined principles of signification and economic valuation. Here, money signifies the particular content that hegemonizes the universal ideological construction of capitalism providing a particular and accessible meaning to economic value, which colours the very universality of the system of prices and accounts for its efficiency.
Being conscious of the limitations of the theoretical analysis, the book employs along with rational arguments a series of artworks that are used both to illustrate the argument and to challenge the unconscious links between the market and the subject, as it is mediated by money and ideology. Notes towards a Critique of Money does not only aspire to raise a theoretical challenge against capital and to open up possibilities of emancipation, but to point towards a new aesthetic of political analysis.

A slideshow presentation addressing the sovereignty of the sign, and/or the independence of the phenomenon which had hitherto transported it, marks the official release of MINDGAMES – a publication conceived as abstract shapes, shrouded in words, to articulate a cross-dimensional plane of intrigue. The diagrams and images will describe the structures and concepts that occupied the mind of the author when creating the text. The presentation will include more than a hundred originally composed images and will be accompanied by a reading.
MINDGAMES incoporates metaphorical qualities depicting people and their relationships in an ongoing interchange between space, geometry, history, and meaning. This quadrangled story about shades and variations in co-dependence and sovereignty is inspired by a musician (John Lennon), a theorist (Henri Lefebvre), an author (Halldor Laxness), and a demented ruler of Rome (Caligula) – forming biographies that present portraits of associations rather than particular statements about individual lives. The publication was conceived as a way of enjoying information in the tradition of the autodidacts of the past – but in a style which is contingent to a reverence towards traditional modes of archiving the world.

Shame is a recurring publication which observes and researches human feelings and the human body. Shame focuses on daily issues that easily pass by our attention and juxtaposes them to politics, design and art in printed form. This makes it look, at times, uncomfortable and embarrasing. Shame One was initiated and produced in the Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht, NL by visual artist Wolfgang Fuetterer and graphic designer Neda Firfova. As of 2012 Shame continues to be produced in Berlin.

**Edition of 800 white 180g vinyls housed in a PVC-lined innersleeve with glossy cover** Breathtaking stuff from Liz Harris presented by Canadian publication, Fillip with suitably refined production values. This edition of ‘Sleep’ is a fragment of a longer composition (we could imagine it exponentially longer) first performed at the Berkeley Art Museum in 2011. More recently the label organised its performance in an abandoned polar bear enclosure at Vancouver’s decommissioned Zoo and now it finally reaches yours and our ears like some cathartic cloud of harmonised tape symphonics that just floated across the Atlantic. It’s difficult to say exactly what the source material is – it could be vocals, it could be synths – but that’s beside the point, and whatever it is, it’s one of the most beautiful things we’ve heard all year.
