[theatro] is a rhythmical reading experience, a 5,5 meters long transcript of a seminar performance, reflecting it’s original pulse and duration. [theatro] expands on the notion of ’view’ (‘thea’ in Greek, where the word ’theatre’ comes from). The word ‘view’ is also the root of the word ‘theory’ [coming from the junction of the words ’thea’(=view) and ‘oro’( =to perceive)]. Aiming towards theory as practice, [theatro] is a new work of Lalou in the form of a book written in two languages Greek and English.

Air inside the bones. Gonçalo Sena, Robert Macfarlane, Pedro A.H. Paixão. Dutch Art Institute/ArtEZ.

Concepts and drawings by Gonçalo Sena, texts by Robert Macfarlane and Pedro A.H. Paixão.

Notes on Air inside the bones:

First published in 1856, John Ruskin’s “Modern Painters vol.IV: Of Mountain Beauty” reflects on the geology of the Alps i terms of landscape observation and its moral and spiritual influences on those living nearby. The “mountainous mask” list derives from the original Index of that book.

Note on Pedro A.H. Paixão’s text:

The text presented here is the development of a selection of notes written, at first, on the margins of my red drawings series, and after – conserving its informal shape, without reference notes -, as a reflection on affinities to Goncalo Senas use of drawing in his projects. The double ‘||’ within the text means not so much a paragraph division, but a lapse in time, allowing the text to remain as a condensed block, and to exhibit its journal nature, here exempted of places and dates.

Cosmic mental therapy
In the realm of the necessary decision

BOOK LAUNCH
February 7th, 2013
from 7pm

There was an empty room in the back of the Werkplaats Typografie. One day, that void has been pushed out of the two doors. In 2012 eighteen people had to find that space somewhere else.

During six separate excursions, throughout Arnhem and the Netherlands, they explored the potentialities of the destruction and construction of new lands, they travelled far in order to look back, they tried to escape to freedom in a dead-end, they cancelled a day, and they finally found nowhere-man in nowhere-land. They searched for the room that they had lost, or for the conditions and materials with which to rebuild it, and in doing so began to expand the walls of the school along a whole new set of trajectories and possibilities.

Cosmic mental therapy, In the realm of the necessary decision is a collection of texts that were gathered through the past year as the Werkplaats Typografie participants of Year 12 and Year 13 collectively attempted to identify, destroy or run from established sovereignty in an attempt to search for something new.

BEST BOOKS 2009 – MAPPING THE LIBRARY. Werkplaats Typografie.
Concept and supervised by: Experimental Jetset.

BEST BOOKS 2009 – MAPPING THE LIBRARY is the outcome of a workshop conducted by Experimental Jetset at Werkplaats Typografie, Arnhem, May – June 2010, part of the annual Best Books project at WT. For MAPPING THE LIBRARY, the participants were asked to turn their favourite books 2009 into maps; consequently, formal connections among the selected books were made that in turn resulted in a giant 16-piece collective map.
