Rosa Barba: In Conversation With.

This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition “Rosa Barba” at Kunstverein Braunschweig and the CCA – Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv.
It collects four conversations between the artist and Sergio Edelsztein (Director CCA Tel Aviv), Hilke Wagner (Director Kunstverein Braunschweig), and writers and curators Kirsty Bell and Gil Leung.

Rosa Barba (*1972 in Agrigent, Italy; lives in Berlin) is an artist working extensively in the area of film. Besides narrative works on film, Barba also produces sculptural orchestrations that ultimately open up into a conceptual practice. Works such as Enigmatic Whistler (2009) or Invisible Act (2010) develop an almost multisen-sorial effect due to their special treatment of material, form, surface, light, and sound. The absence of a projected image causes the focus to shift to the material, thus heightening the sculptural effect.

In The Beginning It Was Humid. Bastien Aubry – Dimitri Broquard.

Since a few years, Bastien Aubry and Dimitri Broquard do artistical work inspired by outsider art or the applied arts like handcrafts or ceramics. It appears as if they both don’t think much of rules and that they just spontaneously adapt their ideas. That makes their work fresh and full of expression. In the Beginning it was Humid – their fourth publication with Nieves – features a broad selection of their ceramic works from the last few year, and concludes with a short story by A.C. Kupper.

Bastien Aubry (1974) and Dimitri Broquard (1969) established the two-man design studio Flag in 2002. They work for art and cultural institutions, producing catalogues, artists books, magazines and posters. FLAG also creates drawings, illustrations for editorials and private projects. Both Broquard and Aubry respectively teach at art schools in Switzerland.

Invalid Format: An Anthology of Triple Canopy, Volume 1. Triple Canopy.

The book, designed in collaboration with Project Projects, is at once an archive of Triple Canopy’s widespread publishing activities and a translation into print of projects that originally appeared in other forms. The design of Invalid Format reflects this problem: How might works produced for the screen be transposed to the codex in a way that recalls that former context, though not slavishly, and while also fully inhabiting the page? How can the form and function of interactive, audiovisual works be degraded elegantly, without disappearing entirely, in print?

Invalid Format will be published at least annually, and will be available at select bookshops worldwide as well as on Triple Canopy’s website. The initial volume of Invalid Format includes artist projects and literary work published in the first year of Triple Canopy’s existence, documentation of public programs, and a sampling of foundational correspondence. This monograph on the artist Marie Lund comprises a two-sided reflection – the first mute, iconographic; the second speculative, text-based – on how we approach sculpture when it is reproduced on paper, or rather, how we approach an image of three-dimensional reality when we are offered a single, flat vantage point. It is the very act of “paging through” sculpture after sculpture, in this publication, that powerfully accentuates the texture of the materials, ranging from alabaster to steatite. Materials that have been transubstantiated into images, conceived by the artist to make our gaze wander over the stone surfaces and our mind wander through the disorienting awareness of a disallowed spatiality.

Compiled Daydreaming by Lara Dhondt

The interest of Lara Dhondt is directed towards a fast, minimal, and vital human need to appropriate a personal space; conquering one’s own place in the world.
An important element within the artist´s work is the installing of these demarcations in urban landscape, she works with (waste) materials gathered on the spot . The photographic representation becomes a monumental document of an ephemeral action in public space.
These constructions can generate and feed ‘daydreaming’; They function as primitive , primary sculptures based on human measurements.
