During the Middle Ages in Europe, the city of Lucca in Tuscany was the most important center for the silk industry. Textile companies from Lucca were among the largest corporations in the region. Most of the family-owned companies were active both in the textile sector and in international banking activities. At the same time, it was in the Tuscany region that workers’ revolts took place, who, for the first time in world history, managed to have their demands documented in written form. Raum’s works analyze the close relationship between textile production and banking business and between the texture of fabric and political thinking, adopting imagery and gestures of the time to look for moments of how emancipation takes form.

Judith Raum (*1977) is a visual artist living in Berlin. In her work, she investigates qualities of subject-object relationship through painting, objects, performing, writing and interviewing. See also: www.judithraum.net

The interview book „Kippenberger & Friends“ comes closer to uncovering Kippenberger the myth, through 25 conversations with artists, curators, gallerists, and friends who contributed approx. 55 documentary photographs from their personal archives, published for the first time. They give us their view on someone who left a lasting impression on them, in descriptions that are contemplative, funny, critical, and also self-ironic. The extremely personal memories bring to life not only Kippenberger himself; they also create a dense picture of the cultural life in a Germany which, torn between the sensationalist Springer press and student revolts, the hedonistic consumer culture of yuppies and the provocative rebellion of the punk scene, still had to become convinced of the maxims of its own actions.

Sessions 72 is a historical document, full of exuberance, humor and mistakes. The release of these recordings makes it possible to compare this ‘action music’ with the characteristics of the recent solo album Anarchic Rehearsal. Forty Years of existential knotting and signs of wear on the human carcass have past between the euphoric group achievement and the recent solo idiosyncrasies.
A solo recording on saxophone, like Anarchic Rehearsal, is always what the French call ingrat, because the dialectics in structure and active processes are assigned to one monodic instrument. But it also invites the listener to explore the spherical qualities of music that usually aren’t distinguishable in a performance by a more conventional group of musicians.

4,492,040 (1969-74). Lucy R. Lippard. New Documents

Between 1969 and 1974, the influential curator Lucy Lippard (born 1937) curated four decisive Conceptual art exhibitions, and in doing so reinvented the exhibition catalogue. 4,492,040 is a facsimile reprint of the extremely scarce and hugely important catalogues produced for those exhibitions: 557,087 (the Seattle Art Museum), 955,000 (the Vancouver Art Gallery), 7,500 (the California Institute of Art) and 2,972,453 (the Centro de Arte y Comunicación). Titled after the populations of the cities in which the shows were held, each catalogue was an envelope of loose note cards containing statements, documentation and conceptual works by each artist, to be rearranged, filed or discarded at will. If Lippard described Conceptual art as the dematerialization of the art object, these catalogues effectively announced the dematerialization of the art exhibition. SOUTH as a State of Mind grew up fast to become a bi-annual contemporary arts and culture magazine published by Epomenos Stathmos (Greece) and Phileleftheros Publishers (Cyprus) and distributed internationally.
