Contemporary Art and Its Commercial Markets: A Report on Current Conditions and Future Scenarios maps and analyzes the complex and contested entanglements of contemporary art and its commercial markets. Contemporary art as an asset category and celebrity accessory, the rise of the art fair, and the increased competition of auction houses are among the phenomena which are discussed by academics, theoreticians, and artists. While some of the contributions show how the market’s globalization, and commercialization both reflect and propel the way art is produced, presented, and perceived, others downplay the impact of these developments and argue that the market’s structure has essentially remained the same. All the essays trigger the question: What will art look like in 2022, and how will artists operate?

Contemporary Art and Its Commercial Markets is published as part of the curated project Abstract Possible: The Stockholm Synergies, taking place at Tensta konsthall, the Center for Fashion Studies at Stockholm University, and the auction house Bukowskis—all located in Stockholm—at the beginning of 2012.

This is the first publication in an ongoing series co-published by Sternberg Press and Tensta konsthall.

The presentation of Kuehn Malvezzi’s new monograph, titled KUEHN MALVEZZI – INDEX is strikingly straightforward: the projects created by the Berlin-based architects over the last decade are exclusively narrated through images, with the sole textual presence consisting of selected reprints of previously published theoretical treatises and interviews. Nothing was added to the volume that would interfere with the narratives, evoked here by the juxtaposed visual sequence of public, private and exhibition spaces. All references are listed on the cover jacket, which also acts as the index.

Rosa Barba: In Conversation With.

This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition “Rosa Barba” at Kunstverein Braunschweig and the CCA – Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv.
It collects four conversations between the artist and Sergio Edelsztein (Director CCA Tel Aviv), Hilke Wagner (Director Kunstverein Braunschweig), and writers and curators Kirsty Bell and Gil Leung.

Rosa Barba (*1972 in Agrigent, Italy; lives in Berlin) is an artist working extensively in the area of film. Besides narrative works on film, Barba also produces sculptural orchestrations that ultimately open up into a conceptual practice. Works such as Enigmatic Whistler (2009) or Invisible Act (2010) develop an almost multisen-sorial effect due to their special treatment of material, form, surface, light, and sound. The absence of a projected image causes the focus to shift to the material, thus heightening the sculptural effect.

White Fungus is an experimental arts magazine based in Taichung City, Taiwan. Featuring writing on art, new music, history and politics, plus original artworks, poetry, fiction and comics, White Fungus is an ongoing experiment in community media art.

Often described as a work of art in itself, White Fungus is held in library collections including The Museum of Modern Art (New York), The Southbank Centre (London), Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Spain), National Library of Australia and Te Papa (National Museum of New Zealand).

Complimenting its publishing schedule, White Fungus holds interdisciplinary arts events at galleries around the world. Past events have been held at P.P.O.W (New York), Taipei Contemporary Art Center, ARTSPACE (Auckland) and Adam Art Gallery (Wellington).

Das Buch mischt und projiziert in 221 Kapiteln verschiedene Quellen, die Jérôme Knebusch während seines Aufenthaltes aufgesucht hat. Die 20er Jahre schließen sich an die heutige Zeit an, voller Irrwege und anderer Gedanken. Berlin erscheint schwebend und »jedesmal nicht ganz die Gleiche, nicht ganz eine Andere«. Passend zu den Texten hat der Autor die Schrift gezeichnet, welche Zeichen aus den Straßenschildern integriert wie das typische ß oder y.

Pour accompagner ces textes, l’auteur a dessiné le caractère typographique en y intégrant des signes que l’on trouve dans les panneaux de rues comme le ß typique ou le y.
