This project documents Sudan, the last white rhinoceros of North Africa. Sudan lived his life inside the Prague zoo, before being transferred to Kenya for reproduction and specie preservation. Sudan lives under armed protection. Giovanna Silva spent ten days in his wildlife preserve, following him from a close distance. The book, entitled Good Boy – the way the guards call the rhinoceros, this lullaby which endlessly accompanied Giovanna’s days with the rhino – 0372, his breeding number, is a tribute to this prehistoric and unique animal. The book is conceived as a sequence of abstract images, in which the animal is barely recognizable, and close-up of his skin and his body progressively fading away.

Within, Iinuma’s photographs present a visual abstraction of form and subject, where both man as architect and building as structure stand side by side as an interdependent unit in continuous dialogue with its built environ. House of Architecture is an elegant and considered presentation of Iinuma’s imagery, allowing both image and subject further space for engagement within the structural form of the photobook.

This book is an attempt at grasping an important part of Květa Fulierová’s archive, which holds a selection of negatives and printed black and white photographs stowed away in envelopes, marked according to themes and sorted chronologically in chocolate boxes. These photographs pertain to the everyday of a family; of her shared household with Július Koller from the period starting in the eighties, when Květa’s grandsons were born, and ending in their adulthood and the passing away of Július Koller in 2007.

In my series Killing Me Softly (2004), I recreated the suicides of famous woman artists, placing myself as the model. Back then, fifteen years ago, it was the suicide of Sarah Kane which induced me to deal with the theme of suicide. In the most recent photographic work Dospar, Liebespaare (book title Tomb Of Love), i shift the attention to couples who committed suicide together. This time I solely have the position behind the camera and I work with non-professional actors, who were instructed by me, staging the death of ten couples and families.

Stasis is the first publication by artist duo Jessika Thörnqvist and Kim Ramberghaug and is made up of a selection of images from the period between 2011 and 2015. It contains paradoxical moments of change and transition when the world and its things are not given, but appear more ambiguously – in their making or dissolution. Capturing moments when light not only illuminates, but itself becomes presence – as reflection, mist, shimmer, haze, shadow and spectra – this literal photography documents a collection of deflected gazes. Instead of being presented as facts to be accepted, these images could rather be characterized as traces of looking away – looking away at the coloured shadow on the wall, or keeping the head turned to the angle at which the sunspot stays in view.

Performed as negation of habitual patterns of attention and perception, these exercises are done with succinct gestural eloquence so that the most transient perceptual objects are approached in a noncoercive relation. The photos in Stasis convey whole experiences of emphemeral phenomenality where reality is suspended, and replaced by something more immediate and sensuous. As Rei Terada (2009) has described, enforcement of the right to look away coincides with a deeply ethical position. The absence of grammar for some feelings reflects a prevailing, and deeply internalized, unfreedom, the alleviation of which only happen on the edge of the aesthetic.
