little_and_large_editions_motto_91010

Little & Large Editions was set up to produce and distribute little and large editions. Our plan is to offer artists the opportunity to work with us on fabricating their ideas. We want to work with both little and large artists, the hope is that the large artists will help pay for the little artists and occasionally vice versa. Our goal is to realise things and make these things available.
Our aim is to run this company as a non profit organisation.
We want to make money for artists who need money and some for those who do not.

We’d like to offer editions that we would like to own and ones that you will want to buy. Any profits, both little and large, will go directly back into running the company.

We are proud to present our first edition with Dave Allen –
It swung back and forth, back and forth until forever. Then it stopped and howled endlessly.
A 12″ vinyl record with printed sleeve will be played and for sale at Motto or through our website www.littleandlargeeditions.com

Drinks will be served – dress accordingly

Lying Freely, Ruth Buchanan

In her itinerant project ‘Lying Freely’, that has evolved in various locations since June 2009, Ruth Buchanan probes questions around the tension between private and public spheres by practicing a method that might be named after the project title, Lying Freely. This has involved Buchanan weaving stories by and about the public personas of three female writers Janet Frame, Virginia Woolf and Agatha Christie into her own speculative writings. The writing becomes scripts for manoeuvring through spaces of systemization and behavioural codification, such as an archive (The Hocken Collection), a hotel (Old Swan Hotel), a library (The British Library). These spaces, each associated with one of the authors, were reconfigured in a haptic choreography performed for and within different locations that hosted the project—a monumental house, a theatre, a gallery.

Co-published by Jan Van Eyck Academie Maastricht and Casco Office for Art, Design and Theory, Utrecht.

The catalogue includes texts by Letizia Ragaglia and Andrea Lissoni in Italian, German, and English.

Berlin Sampler – Le son de Berlin de 1904 à 2009, Théo Lessour

Sampler is a series of city music guides. It proposes new ways to see how music interacts with it’s suroundings, and new ways to discover a city. Berlin Sampler, the first of the series, was released in November 2009.

Music was an extremely important factor in the creation of the berlin identity. But it is strangely very often forgotten in many of the books about the city, and the knowledge of Berlin music history is most of the times way smaller than the one on art, movies, architecture… This book offers keys to listen to the city of expressionism, dada, silent movies, cabaret, Bauhaus, hyperinflation, nazi and communist dictatorship, cold war, Airlift, 68 riots and student protest, alternative movments, fall of the Wall and Love Parade. It helps discover music pieces that were often forgotten and put the famous ones in a new light, that shows the inner breathing of the city through history. : dada sound poetry, electronic music in the 30’s, german swing under the third Reich, free radical music from 68, DDR punk, the genius-dilettant movement of the 80’s, and the minimal techno…. there are many creatures in the berliner Zoo.

Svart Metall by Grant Willing

Grant Willing’s ongoing photographic series Svart Metall is a meditation on the ineffable qualities of an unsubtle musical subculture, Black Metal. Though its sonic qualities are challenging even for some metalheads, its Nordic atmospherics and paganistic themes are arguably evocative for a diverse range of artists. The photographs are allusive of the themes black metal culture treats, and presented in a surprisingly informal way—printed on bleached newsprint stock. On this ephemeral paper, the photographs retain a stately quality but gain a more disorienting sense.
