The Big Convoy. Dirk Zoete. Posture Editions.

Posture Editions collects an extensive cycle of works by Dirk Zoete (Roeselare, 1969): black and white photos of scene images modified with pencil and Photoshop. These images literally serve as the backdrop for a succession of sketched transformations. In this way they seem to instigate a peculiar stop-motion movie. The fragmented way of working shows the design and the implementation of a drawing over time.
Are these images a sketchy scenario for an animated film or they are an exercise in scenography? Are these still considered photos or drawings? Subjects depicted are quite diverse: objects and tools, rough architectural constructions in impossible landscapes, half-realised shadowy characters, but also contrasts such as light and dark (black and white), or other drawn elements such as lines, shadows and spots…
The book aims to present this series as a stunning world of dream images that entail a story – and therefore as a whole can best be described as a graphic novel.

The black and white reproductions and the theatrical nature of the work also opens a hall of mirrors to historical artistic references: the scenery images from Parade by Picasso, the Triadisches Ballett by Schlemmer, the supremacy of Malevich, but also rarely-screened Westerns or novels like The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky.

Architecture critic Koen Van Synghel provides the introduction to this artist’s publication.

Wild Things Are Going To Happen. Henrik Schrat. Eastside Projects.

Wild Things Are Going To Happen. Henrik Schrat. Eastside Projects.

Henrik Schrat’s Wild Things Are Going To Happen captures a hallucinatory journey in the life of Dan Graham, the iconic artist of ‘Rock my Religion’ fame.
Exploring the Digbeth and Eastside areas of Birmingham, Dan is joined by Eastside Projects Directors Gavin Wade and Celine Condorelli, curator Maurizio Bortolotti, and architect Joe Hollyoak.
The group fall through the looking glass and are confronted by the polymorpheus utopia and dystopia of present time, the historical, and the ‘just passed’. They travel from Birmingham’s Bull Ring to Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion via Dan’s sculptures and are transformed and transported to a submerged world, where Jaques Lacan sells the group tickets to theHall of Mirrors in Versailles!
Explore the complex web of theories, FACTS AND FICTIONS between Dan Flavin, the 19th Century American Hudson River School of Painting, science fiction and Cedric Price. And just who is Sverre Fehn?
Henrik Schrat’s graphic novel is a violent splash into the inner workings of one of the most influential artists on the planet.

Ghosthunter

Vicente B. Ballestar, born in Barcelona in 1929, is a Spanish illustrator known worldwide for his genre-defining dark pulp and supernatural realist illustrations. Throughout his long career, he has been beloved by aficionados of the genre worldwide, especially for his cover illustrations for Geisterjäger, John Sinclair (Ghosthunter, John Sinclair). From the beginning of the series in the 70s to his retirement in 2007, Ballestar created almost one thousand striking scenes in his preferred medium watercolour, giving the adventures of John Sinclair their unmistakable graphic character and certainly greatly contributing to its cult status. In the horror detective fiction series, published weekly since 1973, Scotland Yard chief inspector John Sinclair is the eponymous protagonist of the German pulp fiction written by Helmut Rellergerd under the pen name Jason Dark.
