That's Not Me

That’s Not Me presents snap­shots taken between 2001 and 2009 of the artist Nuri Koer­fer on hol­i­day and in her home coun­try, Switzer­land. With That’s Not Me, artist Nuri Koerfer seeks to define herself by what she is not - namely, a dead animal. Each of the eleven large-format color self portraits depicts Koerfer alongside decapitated chickens, half-eaten fish, taxidermied buffalo, and other unfortunate creatures whose lifeless objectness is highlighted by the artist’s own youthful vivacity as she mugs and poses for a camera that will, in its way, render her immortal.

The idea for That's Not Me came about when Koerfer was in China, where she lived and worked for six months in con­junc­tion with a schol­ar­ship. It's her first excur­sion into pho­to­graphy, and printed in an edition of 500 hand-numbered copies.
