Joana Vasconcelos: Trafaria Praia

The portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos represented her country for the 2013 Venice Biennale, a major event in both cultural and artistic scenes.

As a subversive artist, Joana Vasconcelos swings between winking to the public and casting a critical point of view on our contemporary society. She seizes objects and transforms their practical nature by playing with their traditional status (via embroidery, feminine attributes or clichés) and renewing them by often monumental pieces and surprising choices of material (lace, stainless steel, cloth, and azulejos).

This catalogue bears witness of this new project's breadth by documenting the steps of the whole process, from its conception to its set-up in Venice.
