De ou par Marcel Duchamp par Ulf Linde. Jan Åman and Daniel Birnbaum (eds.). Sternberg Press.

Posted in Uncategorized on June 15th, 2013

De ou par Marcel Duchamp par Ulf Linde. Jan Åman and Daniel Birnbaum (eds.). Sternberg Press.

In 1961, Ulf Linde produced the first authorized copy of Marcel Duchamp’s monumental piece, The Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even (1915–23), and Linde is without doubt one of the world’s most important interpreters of Marcel Duchamp’s art. For more than half a century, he has pursued intense studies of Duchamp’s entire oeuvre and has made perfect replicas of all his major works. Like no one else, he knows the works in minute detail.
Linde’s replicas and his early texts on Duchamp were essential to the international reception of the artist’s work and played a key role in such major exhibitions as Walter Hopps’s 1963 Duchamp retrospective at the Pasadena Art Museum, and the Centre Pompidou’s opening exhibition in 1977. Linde, who is still as active as ever, is the author of numerous books and essays on Duchamp. His as-yet unpublished manuscript scrutinizing the mathematical principles behind Duchamp’s art reveals what Linde claims to be the key to Marcel Duchamp’s poetic universe.

Produced by Academie Anartiste as an extension of the eponymous exhibition organized by the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and Moderna Museet in 2011.
Contributions by Jan Åman, Daniel Birnbaum, Marcel Duchamp, Ulf Linde, Henrik Samuelsson, Susanna Slöör

Book Release: Out In The Open, Malene Landgreen @ Motto Charlottenborg 12.06.2013 at 5-8pm

Out in the Open. In Situ / Paintings, Large Scale Installations and more Malene Landgreen Projects 2003 – 2013
“It is with a great deal of delight that I with this book present my most recent work. The book deals primarily with the painting-related work in situ, also referred to as the expanded painting, created during the period 2003-2013.
What I am aiming at through the presentation of images, texts and sketches is to render visible and promulgate certain processes in the artistic treatment. This is done through a selected assortment of painting-installations of a more experimental nature, typically made for exhibition-related contexts in a more provisional perspective, and similarly through a selection of permanent in situ assignments cre- ated inside rooms and buildings, indoors as well as outdoors, also created during this period.
Seen in the clear light of hindsight, certain very early works can now be drawn into the context of space-interventions as the tender buds of the subsequent work with the field of the expanded painting, which I still have a burning desire to explore and unfold.
In this book, six different writers have written succinct essays: an author, two visual artists, an art theorist and two art historians. Each author has chosen a form and has proceeded to write on the basis of his or her chosen angle about a work, about a process or about a context: accordingly, taking a his- torical, a political, a poetic, a philosophical and an art theoretical approach. These text condensations have played a part in determining the form of this book as well as its particular selection of pictures.”

The contributing authors are:
Naja Marie Aidt, Thorbjørn Bechmann, Maria Gadegaard, Carsten Juhl, Vibeke Petersen og Katya Sander.
We look forward to seeing you in the MOTTO Bookstore at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
To celebrate the occasion Actor Morten Kirkskov reads from the book:
Unruly life is: form, color, movement by Naja Marie Aidt.
Graphic Designer Kim Lykke will be talking about the book’s genesis and there will be chilled white wine.

The Book can this day be purchased for DKK 100 (Normal price DKK 195/€ 26)

The publication is realized with support from the Danish Art Council

Out in the Open – In Situ / Paintings, Large Scale Installations and more Malene Landgreen Projects 2003 – 2013

(Normal pris195 kr. / 26 €)

Artwork as Social Model: A Manual of Questions and Propositions. Stephen Willats. Research Group for Artists Publications (RGAP).

Stephen Willats’ art practice addresses contemporary social and cultural issues. His polemic takes ideas beyond the norms and conventions of the object-based art world, to explore possibilities inherent within communal groups.

In many of his projects he has collaborated with members of diverse communities in a variety of everyday settings, initiating interventions that build on the richness and complexity of self-organisation to determine and reinforce a sense of identity. The result is a body of artworks with a dynamic, interactive, social function.

This manual, which includes texts, interviews and artwork from five decades of practice, is intended as a tool for any artist or practitioner looking to find a meaningful relationship with contemporary society. It proclaims, and argues for, a culture that promotes the fluid, transient, relative and complex society from which it stems.

Asterios Polyp. David Mazzucchelli. Pantheon Books.

Asterios Polyp. David Mazzucchelli. Pantheon Books.

The triumphant return of one of comics’ greatest talents, with an engrossing story of one man’s search for love, meaning, sanity, and perfect architectural proportions. An epic story long awaited, and well worth the wait.
Meet Asterios Polyp: middle-aged, meagerly successful architect and teacher, aesthete and womanizer, whose life is wholly upended when his New York City apartment goes up in flames. In a tenacious daze, he leaves the city and relocates to a small town in the American heartland. But what is this “escape” really about?
As the story unfolds, moving between the present and the past, we begin to understand this confounding yet fascinating character, and how he’s gotten to where he is. And isn’t. And we meet Hana: a sweet, smart, first-generation Japanese American artist with whom he had made a blissful life. But now she’s gone. Did Asterios do something to drive her away? What has happened to her? Is she even alive? All the questions will be answered, eventually.
In the meantime, we are enthralled by Mazzucchelli’s extraordinarily imagined world of brilliantly conceived eccentrics, sharply observed social mores, and deftly depicted asides on everything from design theory to the nature of human perception.
Asterios Polyp is David Mazzucchelli’s masterpiece: a great American graphic novel
