Two Body Shapes YELLOW

Published on the occasion of the exhibition by Franz Erhard Walther “Two Body Shapes YELLOW” from September 13 to November 18, 2018 in the Stommeln Synagogue. It is accompanied by a text by Andreas Beitin.

Franz Erhard Walther is one of the most influential artists of recent decades, for his work in conceptualism, minimalism, fresh use of fabric as art material and for challenging the passivity excepted from the consumer of art.

Franz’s exhibition at the Synagoge Stommeln seems, at first glance, like a conventional presentation of the two-part sculpture, a pair of equal size triangles made of yellow cotton. The work, however, conveys religious sublimity and yet contrasts the historic architecture of its surroundings while it’s irregular invites the viewer to take an active part in the work.
