Product Description

The Deaths in Newport is based on an enormous newspaper archive, which documents the murder trial of Beulah Louise Overell and George Gollum in the late 1940s. They were charged of murdering Beulah Louise's parents on their boat in Newport harbour. The motive was the Overells' dislike of Bud Gollum, and Beulah Louise's expected inheritance, estimated to be 600 000 to one million US Dollars. In collaboration with Vier5, the book tells the story only by displaying the headlines of the different Newspapers during the long trial. The focus of the book is mainly on the media depicting the case, forcing the spectator to get deeper into the story and details of the trial. Lewis Baltz was born in Newport. His personal connection to the case is his father, who was the coroner in the Newport Harbour killing. Edition of 170, numbered and signed by Lewis Baltz, the first 35 have a limited edition photograph.
