That’s Not Me

With That’s Not Me, artist Nuri Koerfer seeks to define herself by what she is not - namely, a dead animal. Each of the eleven large-format color self portraits depicts Koerfer alongside decapitated chickens, half-eaten fish, taxidermied buffalo, and other unfortunate creatures whose lifeless objectness is highlighted by the artist’s own youthful vivacity as she mugs and poses for a camera that will, in its way, render her immortal.
