Smacker EP (vinyl)

An experimental EP from Handy is released by Diagonal, the label run by Powell, accredited for drops from the likes of Shit and Shine and most recently Russell Haswell and The Modern Institute. The idiosyncratic score features tracks such as ‘Spit’ and ‘Dump’, which play into the EP’s description as a nod towards, and meditation on, London’s gay subcultures. Both tracks seem to warp and accelerate into unknown territories, reminiscent of anything from pop hits like SOPHIE to the wonkiness of British producer Si Begg. ‘Oink’ seems to unravel speedily towards a surprising destination, a tight rhythmic loop that locks listeners in once they arrive.
