Product Description

Large letters, raw typefaces combined with simple illustrations characterize the posters of the Bern City Theater. The bold drawings and posters, often printed in just two colors, have a strong visual impact. Behind them are graphic designers and illustrators Bastien Aubry and Dimitri Broquard of "FLAG Aubry/Broquard." What stands out among the 20 submitted posters is their visual originality, even though these are commissioned works for the Bern City Theater. The posters are simple and direct, hand-drawn and handwritten. Bastien Aubry and Dimitri Broquard use felt-tip pens, ink, and pencil, as well as collage techniques. The computer is often only used at the very end of the design process for fine-tuning. Each poster is experimental and unique, connected by the theater’s logo. Nevertheless, FLAG Aubry/Broquard manage to give the Bern City Theater a distinctive identity.
Since 2004, Bastien Aubry and Dimitri Broquard have not only designed the posters but also other printed materials for the institution, such as event calendars, program booklets, and the in-house newspaper. Their style is polarizing, and as Dimitri Broquard puts it: "People either love our work or hate it."
Aubry and Broquard also design books. Their clients include established museums and publishers such as the Migros Museum of Contemporary Art in Zurich and the German publisher Hatje Cantz. In addition to commissioned work, they design typefaces and publish books featuring their own, previously unpublished work. All of it, a little off the beaten path.
