"In the several past years, contemporary art has noticeably turned to the investigation of historical topics. Ulrike Grossarth's artistic examination of subjects related to the history of mentalities and contemporary history - and thus to the intellectual foundations of our culture - began in the late 1980s. Departing from the fundamental experience of the twentieth century as a century of the "rupture in civilisation", as Habermas once termed the shattering of all assumptions about human behaviour, Ulrike Grossarth has been researching the mental foundations of this historical crime in her artistic works, but also the philosophical and cultural traditions of thought and modes of life that have become submerged or been suppressed."
