Product Description

This publication is issued on the occasion of the group exhibition "it always jumps back and finds its way" as a part of the Curatorial Training Programme (CTP) 1996-97 of De Appel Foundation.

The show presented 12 artists from different countries, who on various levels comment on experiences of time. They deal with, subvert or ridicule Real Time and bring different points of time together. Inherent in the works of art will be aspects of memory, waiting, time loops and slowness. Time is a constructed grid that is ruling our lives, but it still gives us room for experimentation. Different kinds of speed offer different kinds of perceptions of the world – phenomena which the participating artists examine. In the contemporary art world young artists are often launched and again forgotten at high speed. We try to withdraw from this tendency by showing both existing works that have already been presented on other occasions and works especially made for this exhibition – by inviting both lesser and well known artists.
The exhibition was organized by the third course of the Curatorial Training Programme at De Appel in Amsterdam. Six young European curators invite you to It always jumps back and finds its way: Phillip van den Bossche (B), Claudine Hellweg (NL), Rita Kersting (D), Raimundas Malašauskas (LT), Cosima Rainer (A) and Paula Toppila (SF).
