In SPACE FOR, Berlin-born artist Ulrike Brückner looks at the new – social – spaces in the wide expanses of the internet.
She chooses as her starting point the private photographs posted on different platforms and forums. She then cuts the figures out of their original environment and places them in an imaginary, undefined, artificial and empty space. This image space is usually reduced to mat, coloured surfaces and a horizontal line. Various figures make an appearance on this virtual stage, with the focus on the body language. These edited images are divided into different headings, e.g. winners / kids / profiles / pets. The image formulation chosen by the photographer is only slightly enhanced and makes visible the aura of unreality which the process of media-based transformation creates around the characters.

Die Berliner Künstlerin Ulrike Brückner setzt sich in SPACE FOR mit den neuen – sozialen – Räumen in den Weiten des Internets auseinander.

Ausgangspunkt sind private Fotografien, die in unterschiedlichen Plattformen und Foren veröffentlicht wurden. Sie hat die Figuren aus ihrer ursprünglichen Umgebung herausgeschnitten und in einen imaginären, nicht definierten künstlichen, leeren Raum gestellt. Dieser Bildraum reduziert sich meist auf matte, farbige Flächen und eine Horizontlinie. Auf dieser virtuellen Bühne treten die Figuren auf, wobei der Fokus auf die Körpersprache gesetzt wird. Die bearbeiteten Bilder sind in verschiedene Rubriken unterteilt – z. B. winners / kids / profiles / pets. Die von der Künstlerin nur etwas überhöhte bildliche Formulierung macht die Aura der Unwirklichkeit sichtbar, die der Prozeß der medialen Transformation um die Personen erzeugt.
