Product Description

Inspired by traditional ink painting Thomas Neumann (born 1975 in Cottbus, lives and works in Dusseldorf) landscapes in Japan photographed. Nature Photography was an uncharted territory, which he mainly with Japan, his second home, connects to the master student of Thomas Ruff. On walks through various mountain regions Werksgruppe MORI has emerged in recent years: technically precise work full of poetry and abstraction. The extensive grays of the photographs are reproduced detailed in the large-format book as triplex printing. The "Japanese Series" includes the work group ISHI. Monumentality and flatness make this work. For this series, Neumann was allowed to photograph selected stones in famous suiseki collections. Based on these special stones creates Neumann a photographic wall, in which the view is caught, but is thrown back again and again to the viewer. Because, as the authors are unanimous, the stones look at us.

An Essay in Japanese and one from the German perspective, written by Gregor Jansen and Harumi Niwa, lead in the photographic works of Neumann and let recognize the different patterns of interpretation.
