Taken by the authors over a period of two years, this book archives over 100 photographs of the intimate interiors of the kepis legionary belonging to the Foreign Legion in Aubagne. At the deepest part of this cavity, between head and cap, personal choices of lining are enveloped by a pleated fabric, like the curtains of private theater scenes – an image of relatives, loved ones or friends, a landscape, a travel card, design, a playing card, an object, a key, a text ..

These various fragments of mixed realities and symbols are the keys to hidden worlds, the subversive expressions that persist despite the individual’s actions, and the effects of social morality.
