Petite Histoire

This book is focused on amateur photography in Romania, but it does not intend to be a comprehensive history or a nostalgic album of old photographs. "Petite Histoire" presents itself as an essay, a contemporary outlook on anonymous productions, a book that aims to enhance our understanding about experiment and failure in photography.
The texts in the book complement this approach, making clearer the relation between contemporary perspectives and the experimentalism inherent in amateur photo-graphy. The project is tributary to the paths opened by Tacita Dean, Martin Parr, Robert Flynn Johnson and many others, but its distinctive trait is given by the local specificity of the photographic production.
The first in a larger series, this book contributes to the way in which photography in Romania is being understood, while it also purports to be a useful encounter with new discourses on photography forged by contemporary artists (Matei Caltia).
