Product Description

The romantic-emphatic image of the artist and the cliché of the crazy artist who goes to extremes has reached a tragic-absurd climax in the death of Bas Jan Ader. In 1975, the Dutch artist set off for the second part of his work 'In search of the Miraculous' to sail from the east coast of the USA to England in his small sailing boat 'Ocean Wave' ... and has never been seen since.

Monk makes the myth of the disappearing artist his working principle by delegating parts of the artistic creative process and demanding that the viewer be prepared to think the work through associatively and creatively. Just as he did not set out to search for locations himself, Monk commissioned the Dutch designers Maureen Mooren and Daniel van der Velden to create a print campaign for Becks based on their ideas from the photos of Bremen and Bremerhaven for the artist's book created in connection with the Bremen project.
