Product Description
Nina Živančević is a Serbian-born poet, playwright, fiction writer, translator, scholar, performer, curator and art critic. She apprenticed as a young poet with Allen Ginsberg and has gone on to work in various capacities as both a writer and scholar of experimental, underground and avant-garde literature.
Nina is renowned author who was the subject of a retrospective of forty years of literary work in the Serbian Cultural Institute in Paris, where she lives.
New York City Jail & Other Stories is a compilation of her fictional writing over the years. It is a remarkable book focused on unconventional female characters. She depicts women who are capable of ending in extreme places, sharing a cell with jail hardcore inmates, in an underground fetish party or in some exquisite inner hell accompanied by literary demons, but retain their intelligence, their conscience, their generosity, their capacity to laugh, their eroticism and their ability to love, even if it brings suffering. Nina’s characters are strong, authentic people and she is eventually in the middle of her own stories too, as herself. Nina is an authentic, libertarian feminist.
