Product Description

On the occasion of the exhibition ACCENTISMS, the TAXISPALAIS Kunsthalle Tirol together with Nicholas Bussmann and Natascha Sadr Haghighian has published the record Singing Yesterday's News.

The work Singing Yesterday’s News Again (2017) by Nicholas Bussmann and Natascha Sadr Haghighian was first realised for a live broadcast on Savvy Funk, the documenta 14 radio station: a singer sang the previous day’s news; this song was covered the next day by a different person, whose song was reinterpreted again the following day by another singer, and so on. After seven days, a new news report was smuggled into the “Chinese Whispers” process.

In the audio-visual installation created fot the TAXISPALAIS, the seven recordings of each song were presented as a chorus in which the accentuations impact on the meaning of the message conveyed in the news report. Every half-hour, a different seven-voice choir could be heard in the vaulted foyer of the TAXISPALAIS re-singing a long-past news report. As part of the installation, the texts of news reports were reproduced as a wire matrix print on fan fold paper.

The record, which was produced in an edition of 500 copies, contains the 13 heterophonic tracks which could be heard in the TAXISPALAIS, as well as the wire print.
