Product Description

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: BELANCIEGE is written and co-produced by Giorgi Gago Gagoshidze, Hito Steyerl, and Milos Trakilovic. The work places the luxury brand Balenciaga at the center of a reflection on political and cultural changes in Europe, 30 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall – a time when neoliberalism and populism go hand-in-hand. On November 21st, 2021, the lecture was presented online as a live stream on the n.b.k. website. It is conceived and shown as a 3-channel video installation in a specially built architectural environment that was presented previously at K21 in Düsseldorf, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Kunsthalle Wien, and is currently on view at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

The music accompanying MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: BELANCIEGE was produced by Mikk Madisson. Alongside the affective and symbolic layers, each track serves as a sonic assemblage to the texts and moving images interlinking the different chapters and characters of the lecture performance.

The record offers a wicked mix and mashup of styles that will take the listener on a boney ride of retro-trends from hell (on a loop!). Corrupt and militant ballroom house for people who like it Rogue-style. Post-Fall of the Berlin Wall-trap for the 89 Gen who suffer from Problems with Meaning. Pricey Blue trend meditation drones for the permanently lagging behind. Turbofolk to paralyze and debilitate any flaunting rival and make them Cry On Command — All nicely Trapped In A Conflict Of Enormous Complexity.

If you are someone who enjoys The Sound Of Privatization or is looking for a soundtrack to privatize the unprivatizable, then this record has enough Handbag Theory for Bernie Bros and DARPA - Trained Makeup Artists alike, in order to help any trendsetter to take over!
