Product Description

What is the appropriate status of things that could not (yet) be fully realized? At what point does an object start to be really present? How many of the phenomena we take for granted essentially are precarious manifestations? How imminently is their existence threatened? How much ambiguity can reality accommodate?

This year, these questions have become virulent – in the true sense of the word – for all of us. 2020 can safely be assumed to mark an epochal change with the pandemic accelerating a rupture that had already been in the making. Or is not all that bad, at least in certain parts of the world, for example in Switzerland, where people can enjoy warm summer weeks (almost everywhere) without being legally required to wear a facemask? Will everything go on as before?

“Not (Yet) Cancelled” is the theme of this year’s Weltformat Graphic Design Festival and the newly launched Weltformat magazine that accompanies it. It hints at the uncertainty about the state of the world that has forced many of us into a crisis of meaning – a lasting doubt that suffuses the present with a sense of ambiguity and unreality.

Contains the essay “The Haunted Typeface” by Italian writer Francesco Pacifico, an interview with renowned Swiss graphic designer Rosmarie Tissi, an exclusive selection of photographs out of Nicolas Polli’s project HomeLife StillLife and more.
