DOING FASHION PAPER No.5

Spass de Luxe means to indulge in the luxury of the joy of making and to embark upon the adventure, in the study course as well as in the editorial process of a magazine, of doing things for the sake of learning and feeding the intuition, and not because one already knows how they work. The naive approach and the light-heartedness shall be defended — especially today, given that for reasons of commercialization, the design process very often gets minimised in the fashion industry.

Considering the worldwide damage that the fashion industry is causing by cheap large-scale and over production, it seems very likely to struggle with the chosen direction as a future fashion designer. But it’s worth changing one’s mind and recognising the making as a registered level of high quality in the sense of producing, refining, craft, hand-made, being it on the part of the designer, being it on the part of the consumer. The consciousness about who designed and produced a piece of clothing under which conditions with what expenditure of time is transferred on the way it is handled. So, the joy of making definitely has the potential to change into joy and appreciation of the made, luxurious object.

In this sense, by this issue, we pledge for a passionate dilettantism, an unstoppable zest for action, non-sense-rockets that spark a fire, and never-ending stamina.
