Late Spring

During several stays at the Art Residency Mustarinda between 2010 and 2013, located in Hyrynsalmi (Kainuu province, Finland), Belgian photographer Debby Huysmans was brought into contact with the old-growth forests of the Paljakka nature reserve. In this book, she uses the stories of different people to explore this magical place, its northern nature and its meanings through still lifes, scenes and landscapes. Walking, observing, telling and collecting are just some of the methods used to clarify the mystery of this ancient woodland and the fables that permeate it. The result is a complex and poetic narrative about a primeval place where nature, scientific research and the spirits meet.
