Product Description

Volume 3 is an interpretation of various instructional photographs collected from numerous textbooks and instruction manuals published by Ansel Adams. Throughout this volume various imagery is re-enacted and/or appropriated to examine the processes and conventions of making technically-sound photographs.

This volume was designed by Dutch designer, Eva van der Schans, and it includes an original essay titled, “On How to Look,” by Minneapolis-based writer, Christina Schmid. Volume 3 was printed at Spinhex & Industrie in The Netherlands in an edition of 500.

Land_AA is an eleven volume set of artist books that explore the legacy and mythology of famed American photographer, Ansel Adams. AA developed an eleven step system of tones in black and white photography, commonly known as “the zone system,” as a way to calculate and control light from its brightest burst to its darkest murmur. Our approach is to build a conceptual zone system which adds to and completes another sort of picture.

Land_AA is a project by Clear As Day.
