Product Description

Laboratory for diverse artistic forms, the collective FRIGO led from Lyon a very active international network of fine art artists, choreographers, poets, comedians, writers and musicians in between 1978 and 1990.

In the 1980s, FRIGO became one of the most emblematic collectives in Europe’s alternative culture. And it took place in Lyon!

FRIGO is the name of a place, a concept and a collective of artists. For ten years, FRIGO has kept an intense artistic production in various fields: free radio (Bellevue 95.8), music, scenography, graphic art, performance, exhibitions, photography etc.

FRIGO brought meter squares of water in Beaubourg, managed to have the Musée d’Art Moderne closed after a performance, put up a pirate TV channel, remodeled TF1 studios, wrote the death notice of the Théâtre National Populaire, rolled a five-ton stone over to India, invited Michael Nyman, filmed Hermann Nitsch, Paul McCarthy, did potlatch in Hamburg, exhibited at documenta 8, Ars Eletronica in Linz, Austria etc. The collective stopped its activity in 1989, at the precise time when a wall fell in Berlin and the exhibition “Magiciens de la terre” arrived in Paris.
