Fillip #15

Featuring writing by Saul Anton, Chris Fitzpatrick, Juan A. Gaitán, Christian Hänggi, Jeff Khonsary, Christina Linden, Metahaven, Metahaven, Gabrielle Moser, Post Brothers, Kate Steinmann, and Letters and Responses.

Fillip editor Kristina Lee Podesva and Fillip publisher Jeff Khonsary spent the month of October 2011 in San Francisco participating in the inaugural magazine residency at Kadist. While in San Francisco, they exhibited at the Art Publishing Now fair hosted by Southern Exposure, presented at SFMOMA’s Open Space Thursdays series, and guest lectured for a couple of curatorial courses at the California College of the Arts. The residency provided Fillip the opportunity to develop content with Bay Area writers for Fillip 15.

Fillip is a publication of art, culture, and ideas released three times a year by the Projectile Publishing Society from Vancouver, British Columbia. Issue 15 initiates a new, ongoing series of texts entitled Apparatus, Capture, Trace examining the links between biopolitics and photography. The series opens with essays by Saul Anton on Osama bin Laden and Gabrielle Moser on the work of Jon Rafman, alongside an introduction by series editor Kate Steinmann. Also in the issue: Christian Hänggi on Stockhausen and 9/11;
Christian Nagler and Joseph del Pesco on curating and algorithms; Chris Fitzpatrick and Post Brothers on parasitical practices; Christina Linden on survivalism and sustainability; Peta Rake on artist-run initiatives in Brisbane; plus a Criticism Roundtable with Julian Myers, Tara McDowell (the Exhibitionist), and Alexander Provan (Triple Canopy), among others.
