Product Description
ETOPS (Extended Operations) is an artist magazine by Yngve Holen, edited with Matthew Evans and designed by Per Törnberg. The three-issue set forms a qualitative, interview-based research project examining highly specialized industries and contemporary systems of production.
ETOPS I (2013) was published in connection with Extended Operations at Rogaland Kunstsenter in Stavanger, Norway. The exhibition presented Holen’s work examining technology, transportation, and the movement of people.
ETOPS II (2015) was published in connection with World of Hope at Galerie Neu, Berlin. Edited by Yngve Holen and Matthew Evans, the issue investigates the plastic surgery and pornography industries through interviews with professionals working within them.
ETOPS III (2016) was published by Kunsthalle Basel in connection with Holen’s exhibition VERTICALSEAT. The issue examines food, culinary heritage, agriculture, and political ecology in the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, based on interviews with chefs, biologists, archaeologists, and agricultural experts.
Together, the three issues examine the infrastructures, technologies, labor, economies, bodies, and ecological systems underlying contemporary industries, connecting artistic research with documentary and interview-based practices.
