Equazioni Cromatiche - notes from a modular field takes shape within these pages as the natural evolution of a broader exploration into the creation and use of abstract stencils.
The first phase of the project involved the creation of stencils/modules, designed in different shapes and sizes, all featuring linear and curvilinear cut-outs.

The second phase of the project involved the creation of more than twenty works by combining the stencils, transferred onto paper using spray paint. In contrast with the clean and precise nature of the stencil, this process gave rise to smudges, incomplete lines, and rough details due to various factors: the wear of the stencils, the type of paper used, and the modulation of the spray flow through the stencil itself.

All of this made the project more alive.
These pages show the third phase of the project, in which the works created are recoloured, cut out, torn into pieces and recombined to obtain new independent outputs. No longer overlapping and repeated stencils, but tiles derived trom them, repeated according to arbitrary rules and patterns.

It is an endless, meditative and escapist game, perhaps an end in itself, but necessary for me in its uselessness.
