Product Description

EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM is the summary of an unpublished series of
concertina leaflets that deals with the life and work of the Irish
architect, designer, and artist Eileen Gray.

The series was created as part of a seminar at the University of
Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) during the winter term 2023/24.
It contains a total of seven different works:
EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM OF LIFE
EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM OF OBJECTS
EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM OF SEATINGS
EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM OF TABLES
EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM OF CABINETS
EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM OF INTERIOR DESIGN
EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM OF ARCHITECTURE
The publication comprises drawings of selected and realised projects
by Eileen Gray as well as an outline of her life story.
The following graphic illustrations serve to intuitively examine
and analyse the selected works, detached from their context.
Instead of explaining them in detail, they focus on the shape
and the designer’s idea. The visualisation was kept deliberately
restrained - the more reductive the drawing, the more scope for
interpretation opens up to the recipient.
The sections ‘Interior design’ and ‘Architecture’ emphasise the
interrelationship between furniture and architecture: Eileen
Gray designed “Gesamtkunstwerke” (total artworks) by analysing,
considering and finally combining both. In “E.1027” and “Tempe à
Pailla” in particular, the interior design is inevitably linked
to the architecture and vice versa.
The works shown in this publication represent a selected part of
the designer’s creative spectrum.
EILEEN GRAY’S MUSEUM focuses on what mattered most to the artist – her work.
