Product Description

Cloud Behavior is a study of clouds through photographs, drawings, essays and interviews. In the summer of 2018, Buhl photographed clouds with medium format film and experimented with darkroom imagery. Buhlʼs photographs relate to historical thinking about clouds, scientific research into their behaviour and August Strindbergʼs mystical and meteorological contemplation of clouds. Climate researchers today analyse the behaviour of clouds in order to understand how global warming affects their movements and how, conversely, cloud movements affect global warming. Strindberg and climatologists share an interest in reading signs and omens in clouds - and using photography and other visualisation media to do so. This connection is explained in various ways in the texts of the book. The texts are accompanied by pencil drawings, computer simulations and mythological representations of clouds. Cloud Behavior thus brings to life a polyphonic narrative of clouds across different disciplines and historical periods.
