WHERE SUMMER WAS
WHO Giacomo Papaccio interprets these spaces through photography, using images to reflect on and reframe their meaning beyond their seasonal function.
WHAT Where Summer Was is a photographic exploration of seasonal landscapes and the loss of their function. It looks at what remains when a place is no longer used or needed.
WHEN The project exists in the time after summer. Not during, but once it has ended. A past season that remains through its traces, suspended between memory and present.
WHERE The images are made in a seasonal place such as Jesolo, a space designed for temporary use. Off season, it approaches the condition of non place, losing its function and becoming anonymous, suspended environment.
WHY This work reflects on the landscape beyond its purpose. Through absence, it shifts attention to surfaces, details, and time, allowing the place to emerge as a presence rather than a backdrop.
HOW The book adopts an experimental approach through image making and sequencing. Processes such as film soup introduce unpredictability and alteration, emphasizing time and decay. The layout follows a gradual shift from architectural, controlled landscapes to more abstract and organic images, reflecting the transition from the artificial to the natural.
