Product Description

The first part of this publication gathers the photographic series From Work by Mirari Echavarri, a project that took place in New York City from April to November of 2014. The photographs document a variety of work processes, as well as scenes of everyday life. Two scenarios, work and life, whose boundaries blur under the circumstances in which the project takes place. Issues such as productivity, leisure and affects, circulate through a fragmentary visual narrative.

In the second part, an equivalent compositional structure serves as a platform to hold two essays. These texts occupy what were blank spaces between photographs in the first part. On the one hand, To Accustom the Eyes is a text by Mirari Echávarri that recounts some of the concerns and experiences that outlined the production process of the project. On the other hand, the researcher and art critic Maite Garbayo Maeztu contributes with a text titled With the Left Hand, in which the author dialectically stages her position regarding writing and the conditions in which it emerges.

In the book, the photographic and textual dimensions detach from one another in order to build a rhetoric and metadiscursive figure around a key concept to understand life today: precarity.
