Is This Your House?

A project by artist David Whelan documenting collaborative paintings made with his mother, Joan Whelan, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. The paintings appear alongside visual fragments sourced from Greek media which report on the execution of Whelan's grandfather. These seemingly disparate archives combine to activate a single disjointed history, interleaved with text and photographs. The publication interrogates how collaborative painting mimics the identity swapping that occurs between caretaker and caregiver.
