Hibaku City Record: Hiroshima

This unique atlas allows readers to witness the transformation of Hiroshima from the moment the atomic bomb was dropped in 1945 to the present day, using maps as a medium for reflection and understanding.

One side presents a map of Hiroshima in 1945, showing the extent of devastation immediately after the bombing. The reverse side maps out present-day Hiroshima, highlighting “atomic-bomb heritage sites”—structures, trees, and other remnants that survived the bombing and continue to bear witness. (The Atomic Bomb Dome is perhaps the most well-known example.)

Alongside the maps, the booklet includes historical context, data on the damage, and records of the city’s gradual recovery. In a world where wars are still ongoing, this work invites readers to pause and reflect on the realities of war and the enduring value of peace.
