The book explores the notebooks that the artist's grandmother made to learn Hebrew when she emigrated to Israel in 1970. The artist, a Chilean of Jewish and Palestinian origin, rearranges the words and phrases in order to generate a type of personal Spanish-Hebrew dictionary. Each word is accompanied by family photographic archives and his own analogous records, both in Chile, Israel and Palestine. The interplay of relationships between words and images opens up possibilities for thinking about the history of a territory and the multiple configurations of memory.

Rafael Guendelman Hales is a Chilean artist graduated from the Master in Situated Practice at University College London, with a degree in Art from the Catholic University of Chile and a diploma in Film Theory (Catholic University) and Contemporary Arab World (University of Chile).

His work has focused on the research of certain contexts and stories, and the relation of humans with their territory in constructing identities. In that sense, the projects have been linked to both political and social processes, and to personal memories and marginal events; and how they can be thought through art.
