With his follow-up to Asher Mixtape Hell, Asher Penn revisits the wide open approach to making photographs that he developed as an student in college, this time venturing outside his apartment to include vignettes from his neighborhood in New York's lower east side and beyond. The sense of unedited and uncensored intimacy remains the same, whether the subject is a convenience store coffee cup resting on a pock-marked shelf next to an unidentifiable metal object or a t-shirt hanging in a store window. Each unlikely tableau is photographed over and over again from several angles and with different exposures, negating the idea that an artist's work should be carefully edited and selected based on a finely-honed and personal aesthetic judgment
