Product Description
A dialogue about life when beginnings and endings merge, memory and dreams converge; and the faith, the ineffable, and the invisible eclipse if not everything, almost everything. A fragmentary conversation with Anita and Margarita, my two grandmothers, both in their nineties, born and raised — since forever — in the rural surroundings of Girona. Specifically: in St. Feliu de Pallerols (La Garrotxa) and Amer (La Selva).
Anita and Margarita are the names of the two grandmothers of Anna Roura Fortet, the author of this project. They are both ninety years old, widowed, and were born and have lived all their lives in the rural environment of Girona.
Fascinated by their idiosyncrasies, Anna Roura decided to stay in their respective houses every weekend she could. She tries to see them more as women than as grandmothers, trying to crystallize all the topics that have been taboo due to their space-time coordinates.
The process, the environment and their routine, lead the author to turn to the language of childhood, which is what finally allows her to take pictures of them and to reach intimate and revealing conversations. Through the game, Anna looks for them and they hide, but with time they are more and more present -although they never end up appearing.
The project is a tribute to Anita and Margarita in particular, but also to all rural women whose stories have been doubly silenced and forgotten.
Made with a Nikon F601 and Kodak Portra 400 film.
