The agenda of this meeting between NEROC'VGM and Claude Closky is best explained in the artist's own words: "A Meeting at Home is about today's common sense, what is supposed to make sense, how we see things, how we put things together, how we read images, how we think with images. The left page presents something from nature like a question. The right page presents something man-made - like an answer. Each double page of the book gives a simple association, two images forming a solid and unfailing couple. A perspective where it's not nature that imposes itself on us as a fatality, but our historical and cultural way of living at home. I snatched low-definition images from the Internet to force the profusion and brutality of these connections, which seem to tie up the basic web of thoughts we rely on to think and make the world we live in our home, in our minds, in our everyday life. Waterfall & tap, sky & planes, baby & diapers, tobacco & ashtray, and so on."

Meet Claude Closky

Claude Closky was born in Paris. He works with different media including video, photography, drawing and the Internet. Closky is renowned for collecting and exploring, exploiting and examining everyday mass mediums from magazine advertising to supermarket mailers or billboard posters. He then turns them into something altogether more grand or undeniably more playful, questioning and subversive. More recently, as can be seen in this Meetings book, the French artist has turned his gaze towards the Internet. The endless personalities, image banks, disparate voices, visuals and opinions on the Web offer a perfect playground for Closky. His work has been featured in too many venues, shows and exhibitions to mention here, but they include: the Valencia Biennial (2001) and Venice Biennial (2001). His work was presented at the Bronx Museum, New York (2002), the Castello di Rivoli, Torino (1996), the Centre Pompidou, Paris (1993, 2000, 2001, 2002), the Deichtorhallen, Hamburg (2002), the Cartier Foundation, Paris (2001), the Caixa Foundation (2004, 2005), Miro Foundation, Barcelona (2004), Olivetti Foundation, Rome (2002), Location One, New York (2003), the Migros Museum, Zürich (2002), the Moderna Galerija, Ljubljana (2000), the Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2004), the MAMVP, Paris (1992, 2000), the Mudam, Luxembourg (2002), the Museum Ludwig, Köln (2002), at Oca, Sao Paulo (2001), the Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt (2002), the Tate Liverpool (2001, 2002) and more.
