Spirale magazine, published in 9 issues between 1953 and 1964, was a platform for young artists and documented the development of abstract and concrete art and poetry in Europe. spirale set itself apart from other magazines with its original and distinctive look and attitude and is one of the most important testimonies to the development of art in the 1950s.

Annemarie Bucher is an art and landscape historian. She studied art history, ethnology and philosophy at the University of Zurich, landscape theory at the ETH Zurich and she holds a PhD from ETH Zurich. She was a Research Fellow at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and has a particular interest in the new interconnections of art, nature, and the environment. Bucher is the co-programme director of the study programme Master of Advanced Studies in Art & Society at Zurich University of the Arts and she co-runs the research venture FOA-FLUX. She is the author of several books and articles on art, gardening, cultural theory, landscape, and theory and she has curated several exhibitions in the field of arts and cultural studies.
