Handless Guitars (cassette)

Handless Guitars is a split album bringing together Ciguë and NowCut, centered on the interpretation of the same constraint: playing guitars without directly using the hands on the strings.

NowCut’s strategy is to employ the mechanical mediation of a fan fitted with felt to produce harmonic drones through the continuous rubbing of the strings, whose tension is sometimes modulated, while multiplying, diluting, and filtering them through the auxiliary circuits of a mixing board.

Ciguë, for their part, takes a wilder approach, dragging their guitars across the floor or assaulting them—striking and hitting them—then capturing the feedback in loops, freezing and amplifying the resonances through freezes.
