The New York artist collective Group Material has been working on complex social and cultural projects since the early 1980s. In 1988, for example, they developed a four-part project on today's understanding of democracy, followed by a so-called AIDS timeline. A new project on how consumption works was created for the Kunstverein in Munich. The room was modeled on a kind of shopping mall and contained products from the world of goods that were collected by Group Material and commented on in the exhibition.
