First Act/First Fact: New RNL Propaganda: Volume 1 (JFLCB 08)

This is the eighth volume of the “Jesse Farber Library of Collage Books.”

Each volume is a limited edition, full color, actual size reproduction of a handmade original artist's book.

RNL is artist Jesse Farber's collaborative and solo project. Since the early 1990s it has focused on tape experiments, collage, and live actions.
In a favourite early action, repeated often, RNL members created propaganda-like flyers with perplexing messages, which they distributed to confused passersby. They would stand at opposite corners in a busy pedestrian area with stacks of xeroxed copies and compare stories afterward about how people had responded. Some got agitated. Others were curious about this odd project. Was it art? RNL would not offer to explain.
The thirteen new collages in First Act/First Fact return to this propaganda mode through evocative yet cryptic combinations of slogans and images. They were designed to be reproduced in black and white. The owner of this collection is entirely encouraged to photocopy the individual yers and post or display them publicly or privately, as long as they are not edited or modified in any way.

First Act/First Fact: New RNL Propaganda Flyers Volume 1 was completed in Berlin in 2024.
