Product Description

This monograph on Daniela Georgieva's artistic practice focuses on her performative works produced since 2011. Five of her productions are presented in large, rhythmically designed photo spreads. Sketches and performance scores illustrate her way of working while intermissions of blank pages emphasize the importance of silence and emptiness for Daniela Georgieva's self-understanding as a dancer and performer.
Essays by authors Friederike Schuler and Dirk Schewe, who have long been following her work, contextualize her practice within larger contemporary discourses on art, performance, and music. Düsseldorf-based music journalist Philipp Holstein's contribution sets a caesura in terms of content and design in the picture series "i took a photo of a swan".

Daniela Georgieva (*1979 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria) lives and works in Düsseldorf. Since graduating from Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, she has created work in the fields of fine arts, music, performance/dance, combining these mediums with great intensity and seeming ease. Daniela Georgieva is always searching for moments that she captures and transforms in their essence. This approach, also to be found in her sculptural works, video works, drawings, collages, prints, or soundscapes, is particularly evident in her performative pieces of recent years.

This publication is the first comprehensive overview of Düsseldorf-based dancer and performer Daniela Georgieva's work, featuring photographs, performance scores, and essays. The Bulgarian-born artist has shown performances at venues such as Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Kunst-Station Sankt Peter, Köln, Image Movement, Berlin, and was artist-in-residence at CCA Andratx, Mallorca, in 2014, and at Villa Massimo, Rome, in 2012.
