Trilogía de las ausencias

Visitar el sitio de aquello que fue un campo de concentración nazi no es cosa fácil. Si el alma se acerca apesadumbrada por la memoria de las atrocidades que en su momento fueron perpetradas, algo indescifrable siente el cuerpo cuando se coloca ahí, tal vez en una nevada a 20º C bajo cero o a la sombra de los árboles guareciéndose del sol veraniego.
Peregrinación para impedir el olvido y preservar el recuerdo de las vidas innumerables evocadas por la taza de peltre o la maleta desvencijada que se exhiben en las salas de lo que hoy es ya museo? El pelo de tantas cabezas, las gafas de tantos ojos. Tal vez la visita no sea sino enunciar físicamente un "nunca más* enarbolar lo que de humano permanece en el mundo, sin olvidar que habrá también quienes hagan la visita por las razones opuestas, ensalzar a los victimarios.

Las series fotográficas que conforman la Trilogía de las ausencias fueron realizadas entre 2017 y 2019, en los campos de Terezín (Theresienstadt) República Checa; Auschwitz- Birkenau, en Ozwiencim, Polonia, y Buchenwald, a las afueras de Weimar, Alemania. En Terezin y Buchenwald, las fotografias fueron obtenidas en formato digital; las de Auschwitz- Birkenau son fotografias polaroid (Imposible Project) que, debido a las condiciones ambientales (-20°C).

Visiting the site of what was a Nazi concentration camp is not an easy thing. If the soul approaches saddened by the memory of the atrocities that were perpetrated at the time, the body feels something indecipherable when it is placed there, perhaps in a snowfall at 20º C below zero or in the shade of the trees sheltering from the summer sun.
Pilgrimage to prevent oblivion and preserve the memory of the countless lives evoked by the pewter cup or the rickety suitcase displayed in the rooms of what is now a museum? The hair of so many heads, the glasses of so many eyes. Perhaps the visit is nothing more than physically enunciating a "never again" raising what is human remains in the world, without forgetting that there will also be those who make the visit for the opposite reasons, praising the perpetrators.

The photographic series that make up the Trilogy of Absences were taken between 2017 and 2019, in the fields of Terezín (Theresienstadt) Czech Republic; Auschwitz-Birkenau, in Ozwiencim, Poland, and Buchenwald, outside Weimar, Germany. In Terezin and Buchenwald, the photographs were obtained in digital format; those of Auschwitz-Birkenau are polaroid photographs (Impossible Project) that, due to the environmental conditions (-20°C).
They took on a blue color when developed.
